Simon A. Scales is a senior managing director for K2 Intelligence, where he leads the London- and Geneva-based business investigations and intelligence teams. Simon is a recognized leader in global investigations and compliance matters with more than 20 years of experience managing corporate investigations involving fraud, bribery and corruption, money laundering, employee misconduct, reputational risk and compliance. He has successfully managed cross-border assignments around the world, from the UK and Europe to emerging markets including China, India, South America, and the CIS (former Soviet Republics).
Before joining K2 Intelligence, Simon served as the head of investigations (EMEA) for BP (London, UK) where he led investigations into violations of BP’s Code of Conduct and of laws and regulations including the UK Bribery Act, the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and the UK Proceeds of Crime Act.
Prior to his position at BP, Simon served as the director of global investigations for TNT NV (Amsterdam, NL), where he was responsible for the management of global investigations into bribery, corruption, money laundering, and TNT group risk, directing investigation teams working in more than 120 countries. He also had global responsibility for the oversight and direction of investigations into anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), anti-money laundering (AML), fraud, compliance, reputational risk, and governance matters. Earlier in his career he served as a detective for the Metropolitan Police/Surrey Police, where he led investigations of major, complex crimes, including the planning and execution of sensitive overt and covert operations.
Simon has vast public speaking credentials, is a visiting lecturer to the University of Portsmouth (Institute of Criminal Justice Studies), and has had numerous articles published in leading journals and international media.
He is a graduate of the University of Nottingham Trent Business School, and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. He is also an alumnus of the Institute of Professional Investigators, a member of the Society of Forensic Interviewers, and a founding member of the Corporate Investigations Council.
