In “Ciberextorsión: La Nueva Moda ‘Hacker’” (El Huffington Post, 3 Aug. 2016), Marina Nogales defines cyber extortion and explains how hackers are using it to attack both companies and private individuals.
According to Marina, “The principal modus operandi for cyber extortionists are stealing data and threatening to distribute or destroy it, denying access to information and platforms like websites or applications if a ransom isn’t paid, or the latest fad among hackers, ransomware . . . encrypting data on a user’s equipment, ‘kidnapping’ it until their demands are met.”
