In “Q&A: What You Need to Know About Event Security” (BizBash, 4 Oct. 2017), Todd Madison speaks in the wake of the attack on a Las Vegas concert series event, providing best practices for event planners when preparing security measures.
According to Todd, when planning events, “You always need an emergency action plan, not just in cases like [the Las Vegas shooting]. . . .[Y]ou want to be able to tell people what to do and where to go. You can control the situation, but if you expect to just wave a wand and for things to be fine, you’re setting yourself up for failure.”
Todd notes the importance of opening lines of communications between event management and the venue, and connecting with local and federal law enforcement officials. Recognizing the need to balance security and pleasure, he suggests putting in place “layers of security that aren’t so noticeable and [making] the monitoring of activity as seamless as possible.”
